Lewis Whitehead, PhD, joined Acelot in 2023 as Vice President of Research, Computational Discovery. Lewis is an experienced and accomplished computational medical chemist with a 25 year history in the pharmaceuticals industry. In his current role, he utilizes his expertise in chemistry, biological sciences, cheminformatics, and molecular modeling to progress innovative research initiatives at Acelot, specifically related to computational discovery of small molecules for neurological conditions. Widely known for his ability to create impactful solutions from limited resources, Lewis is also passionate about mentoring the next generation of scientists.
Prior to his work at Acelot, Lewis served as Vice President of Computational Chemistry at 1910 Genetics, where he led and oversaw efforts in computational medicinal chemistry, as well as guiding research efforts to support drug discovery activities. He was previously the Director of Computational Chemistry at Nimbus Therapeutics & a Group Leader at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research. Lewis also served in voluntary roles as the Treasurer of the Computers in Chemistry Technical Division of the American Chemical Society, as a member of the Board of Directors at Seeding Labs, and the United States Committee for IUPAC.
Lewis received his PhD in Chemical Biophysics from the University of Southampton and his B.Sc(Hons) in Chemistry from the University of St Andrews.
